2002.04.22 - And now, we make software too...
Yay! Photoshop 7 for OS X is finally out, and we don't have to use Classic to make icons and desktops anymore! To celebrate, here's a little tool I built that makes producing icons on OS X much easier: icns2icon.

The Mac OS X Developer Tools include a nice "quick-and-dirty" icon tool called IconComposer. Drag in one image file for each icon size (PNG or TIFF works best, since Cocoa has trouble importing transparency in Photoshop files). Then hit Save and you've got a ".icns" file ready for inclusion in a Mac OS X app. Unfortunately, this kind of file isn't viewable in the Finder. This is where icns2icon comes in: once you've saved a ".icns" file from IconComposer, drag it onto icns2icon, and its contents will be pasted on as a custom icon resource. Now you can see what it looks like on the desktop or in the Dock, or use the Show Info window to copy and paste it onto a folder or disk or some other file.

  2002.01.24 - Nostalgia time
Well, I finally got around to making pages for all our old Classic Mac OS and Mac OS X Server 1.x (aka Rhapsody/OPENSTEP) icon sets for the "new" site. (All our current icon sets are designed for Mac OS X; they work in OS 8/9, but the "classic" versions of the same sets work better.) You'll find all our older sets on three new pages of the icons section now. And if you have problems using our icons with older operating systems, you'll find that the FAQ section has been updated as well.

2002.01.17 - Cleaning out the attic
Have you ever returned to your dorm room to find that there had been a party and someone had left a couple pieces of unsigned art on your computer? Well, maybe not. But hey, you can get your taste of free and eclectic here, with five more desktops. Enjoy!

  2001.11.19 - Something like a postcard
We continue our streak of everything but icons! Dave took a wonderful cityscape photo in Osaka, Japan. Rick and I both thought it absolutely needed to be a desktop. Check it out!

  2001.11.17 - Fresh Desktops
Rumors of our death have been greatly exaggerated. Again. I finally gave up and sat down to Classic Photoshop, after my dedicated OS 9 machine did die. This set had been waiting long enough. Adobe! Anyway, there are four new desktops, showing the lovely spring flowers in Seattle. (It's not always grey and rainy.)

  2001.05.01 - May Day icons
Several people asked us about Anne's Circles sets... Well, the OS X versions weren't ready in time for the relaunch last month, but they're ready now. In fact, there are even more of them now!

Also, OmniWeb 4.0rc1 has been released, which solves the font display and JavaScript bugs you may have encountered on this site under previous versions. Enjoy!

  2001.04.05 - Icons! Icons! Icons!
Four new sets!

Spiffy Apps V is kinda small by our standards, but those who have been asking for OS X style Adobe icons will be pleased anyway. We're missing a couple of the apps, though -- if anybody can hook us up with artwork from Premiere, After Effects, or LiveMotion, drop us a line.

Aqua Docs is the beginning of a new series. A lot of the document type icons we see in OS X don't really fit in well in Aqua... these do.

Dragons is the OS X remake of one of Anne's more popular sets.

And OmniWeb iCandy is a set of replacements for the toolbar icons in OmniWeb 4. Like the icons from beta2-beta9? You can have 'em in 4.0, in multiple colors even.

  2001.04.04 - Back in Business
We're back! C'mon... did you really think we'd turn to the dark side? =)

April Fool's Day provided us with a good cover while we totally reorganized things. The redesigned HTML is smarter and more compact in addition to having a new Aqua-inspired look, and the web server is now running on our beloved Lime iMac, CrazyFrog. We a lso now have more of a Mac OS X focus, now that the new OS is out. (Actually, right now we don't have anything else; the icon sets for older OS versions will be coming back soon, though.)

We still have a few technical issues to work out. Users of OmniWeb 4.0cf3 will notice that the download widget on the desktops page doesn't always work. That'll be fixed in the next OmniWeb release.

Like the redesign? Hate it? Other feedback? Please let us know!
